Bob Dylan’s creative output has always been imbued with a sensibility for storytelling, regardless of medium. This is true of his music and it is true of his visual art; Dylan takes us on journeys. We encounter unique characters, engage with fresh scenarios and traverse the environments that he conjures from seemingly lived perspectives.
Produced between 2021 and 2025, the Point Blank series is his latest body of work.
They were initially conceived as drawings, made with loose draughtsmanship in moments of inspiration while on tour. He returned to these drawings, with the brush, sometimes a few years after they were originally made. His application of paint is intuitive, heavily applied, laying bare every gesture across the page and enlivening his sketches.
The product is a visual journal that is full of intimacy which offers an insight into the artist’s imagination and surroundings. These works demonstrate how Dylan finds stories and poetic resonance in the every-day, from a carton of eggs to a woman holding carnations and a footbridge that beckons the viewer to cross.
